SolidCraft vs Fusion 360: Capabilities and Workflow Choices

Compare SolidCraft and Autodesk Fusion by sketches, parametric history, assemblies, STEP/STL, CAM, simulation and AI automation, with practical migration checks.

SolidCraft v0.12.0 · Independent guide · October 16, 2026

Choose by the job you need to finish

For learning parametric modeling, making simple parts or exploring MCP automation, SolidCraft is worth evaluating with a small case. If delivery depends on established machining, simulation, drawing or team-data workflows, keep your validated toolchain while testing each migration requirement.

A familiar interface, assembly commands or STEP export do not establish equivalent functionality, geometry robustness or file compatibility. This comparison covers documented scope. Our executed case is the mounting plate, not a performance benchmark between the two applications.

WorkflowSolidCraft v0.12.0Autodesk FusionWhat to check
Sketches and parametric modelingConstraints, dimensions, feature timeline and expressions.Provides parametric design workflows.Edit critical dimensions on the same part and check rebuilds.
Assemblies and sheet metalComponents, joints, motion and sheet-metal tools are documented; support boundaries are version-specific.Corresponding design workspaces and tools.Test your actual joints, flat patterns and deliverables.
STEP / STL exchangeRelevant import/export support; our case checks STEP reimport and STL export.Documented import/export and format support.Check units, bodies and dimensions; feature-history migration is not guaranteed.
CAM / CAE / PCBThis solid-modeling example does not establish CAM, simulation or PCB workflow coverage.Official scope includes CAD, CAM, CAE and PCB; access depends on licensing and extensions. If required, verify each capability and its access conditions.
AI / MCPBuilt-in MCP server for modeling and measurement from compatible clients.Assess automation against current Autodesk APIs and product documentation.Check whether automation reliably completes your actual task.
Runtime and licensingMIT OR Apache-2.0; desktop, browser and CLI. AI client costs are separate.Licensing, personal-use eligibility and service conditions follow current Autodesk terms.Check your use case rather than comparing a single price.

Run a one-part migration trial

  1. Choose a simple, shareable copy of a part and record dimensions, units, hole positions and deliverable formats.
  2. Open or rebuild it in SolidCraft, then edit a dimension that affects later features.
  3. Export STEP and open it in the receiving application. Check volume, units, body count and critical dimensions.
  4. If drawings, CAM or simulation are required, validate those workflows separately before deciding to migrate. STEP success alone does not validate the whole toolchain.

When should you consider CADCraft?

For primarily 2D technical drawings and command-driven drafting, start with CADCraft and CADCraft vs AutoCAD. For 3D parts with sketches, extrusions and dimension-driven history, continue with the SolidCraft tutorial.
